ABOUT ISFG
The International Society for Forensic Genetics is an international association promoting scientific knowledge in the field of genetic markers analyzed for forensic purposes. The ISFG was founded in 1968 and today it represents more than 1100 members from over 60 countries. Their expertise includes molecular genetics, blood group serology, mathematics and biostatistics, as well as legal matters ranging from criminal law to medical ethics. Regular meetings are held at a regional and international level. Scientific recommendations on relevant forensic genetic issues are developed and published by expert commissions of the ISFG. Since 1989, the DNA Commission of the ISFG has published numerous recommendations addressing important topics to help establishing scientific standards in particular for new typing methods and genetic marker systems. Thus the society has adopted a pivotal role to take up the generally accepted scientific knowledge in the field of forensic genetics and condense it into specific guidelines with the overall aim to harmonize the important work derived from the studies of genetic markers in humans for the judicial system
International congresses are held every two years.
The next meeting will take place from September 14th to the 18th in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The last meeting was held in Copenhagen
